Moving to a new home or office is quite exciting and now also more convenient and safer with Smoove – the leading online moving marketplace in the UAE. It provides easy access to the best moving companies in Dubai and across the UAE. It allows you to compare different moving companies serving in your area and see the profiles of movers, actual reviews from previous moving jobs, and other important details so that you can hire one that best matches your needs. While packing and moving will all be handled by professional movers, there are still some things that you need to do to complete your move without any hassle.

Here is your essential moving checklist that you will find very useful while planning your move.

1. Get a Moving/Building Permit

In Dubai, prominent developers have made move permits mandatory for all people moving in or out of their properties. For instance, Emaar Properties, Dubai Properties, and Nakheel Properties require their residents to obtain move-in/out permits.

Some of the communities and areas in Dubai where move-in/out permit is necessary are:

  • Downtown Dubai
  • Palm Jumeirah
  • Arabian Ranches
  • Mudon
  • Dubai Marina
  • Emirates Hills
  • The Meadows
  • The Greens
  • The Springs
  • Al Furjan
  • Legacy Park
  • The Views

To see how to apply for move-in and move-out permits, visit official websites of the communities you are planning to move in and move out.

2. Get an NOC from Landlord

If you are a tenant, you might need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your landlord. The requirement of an NOC letter varies from one owner to another. Besides, some utility companies may ask you to show an NOC letter from your landlord to disconnect electricity, water, and other utilities and refund any utility down payments paid by you as a tenant.

3. Book Professional Movers and Packers Beforehand

While you will find many professional movers and packers at Smoove, you should book a moving service in the UAE in advance to avoid last minute hassle. It is important especially if you are moving during a popular season.
Buying a move insurance is also recommended and affordable ,many of Smoove partners offer insurance service .

4. Start Packing up early

Don’t leave the packing and wrapping part of your move to the last few days of the move. Make sure that you pack and leave within the timeframe that your landlord has provided to you to avoid penalties and deductions from your deposit.
Ask your mover to provide you with boxes in advance and start packing your personal items and labeling them.

5. Apply for Utilities Disconnection at the Current Address

Before moving out of your current home or office, you must get the utilities disconnected. Make a list of utility accounts you need to close. This may include electricity, water, water, gas ,trash removal, internet, phone, and cable. Make sure that you don’t leave out any utility by mistake.

Keep the necessary information ready because when you will call utility companies, they are going to need some information, such as your utility account number and home address. Note that you may need to pay de-activation charges for the disconnection of some utilities such as electricity/water.

Once disconnected you may ask for a refund of your security deposit or transfer to the new account if it is possible .

Since the activation process of utilities can take some time, request for activation of required utilities at your new address as soon as possible.

6. De-snag and fixed issues before you move out

If you have broken a few shelves, fixtures, installed wall papers or anything during your stay in the home or office, make sure to complete the repairs before moving out. Restoring the property to the same condition as when you first moved in will help you avoid paying fines to your landlord for property misconduct. This way, you can also get back your security deposit payment in full.
It is cheaper to hire a handyman service and get it done than to leave it as typically the amount deducted by landlords against such issues is much higher.

Smoove has you covered for Handyman services as well , you can get best offers for your jobs on Smoove App or web site

7. Apply for Utilities Connection at Your New Address

Check with the existing utility provider if they can transfer your utility account to the new address. If they don’t offer services in the new area you are relocating to, you will need to switch your utility service provider and open a new account.

8. Get your new home in order

Typically, it is recommended that you carry any necessary de-snagging, handyman services ,Pest control and finally deep cleaning to your new home before moving in .

This will help you settle in faster in a new and clean property.

Smoove, has you covered for all of these services as well through our comprehensive platform

Shifting to a new home or office in the UAE is exciting but can also be challenging when you don’t plan things properly. By following the above UAE moving checklist, you can make your move simple and stress-free.
